Hand building with Clay Workshop

We spenttwo afternoon sessions hand-building and glazing Morandi inspired vessels together. During that time, we covered 3 key techniques to create vessels by hand, as well as the basic understanding of the process of firing clay, and vitrifying it with glaze.

Each session was roughly 3.5-4 hours with a tea break in between.
The class was taken through guided steps and given individual support and assistance on how to work with the shape and form that they were molding by hand, which is always individual and unique to each person.

  • Session 1 : hand-building vessels using templates, weld slabs and pinching methods. Starting with an introduction to wedging, we worked through how slabs can take on shapes.
  • Session 2 : on site at the studios where our pieces were fired. We covered the basics of glazing and then had access to 42 different types of glazes to vitrify our green ware.
